As you dust off the ornaments, unpack the snowmen and scurry through your day shopping for the perfect gift, take a moment to think of the children. Last year, working in partnership with the Broken Bow Does, the Custer County Chief, the Children’s Christmas Fund Board and through the generosity of folks just like you, the Children’s Christmas Fund helped make the holiday season a little brighter for 175 families and more than 500 children. This year, the Christmas season may prove to be an even greater challenge. The Children’s Christmas Fund is a not-for-profit organization which helps needy families not just at Christmas time, but throughout the year. During the holidays it provides a Christmas dinner, a little extra for the pantry and gifts for the little ones. For nearly 60 years, the Children’s Fund has been helping those in need. It started when a trio of businessmen got together with an idea. They wanted to gather a couple of Christmas presents, a few trimmings for the tree and a little food for a family or two they knew to be struggling. Over the next couple of years, as the number of families on the list multiplied, the trio went public with a plea for help. It wasn’t long after, that they asked the Broken Bow Does to help. In addition to a donation from Jennie Melham Medical Center’s fiscal and IT departments last week, the fund has received gifts from other donors to kick off the 2009 giving season.
Gifts include: Melham Business Office Employees - $400 Wayne and Pam Wright - $50 Round Hill Homemakers - $20 |
