The Broken Bow Indians traveled to Gothenburg on a rainy Saturday to participate in the Southwest Conference meet. The Lady Indians claimed second place overall as they finished just 4 points behind Gothenburg. The boys team finished in fifth place as the Swedes claimed the boys title as well. The Lady Indians got off to a quick start as Shelby Hamilton claimed the first of 2 gold medals in the long jump. Chelsey Jones also competed in the event and was able to finish in sixth place. Hamilton then competed in the 400 meter dash and was able to claim her second gold of the day. Jones later competed in the high jump where she would take fifth. The Lady Indians had a strong showing the 3200 meter run as Katie White won the event. Jena Miller made her return from a calf injury to finish in fifth place for Bow. White grabbed another gold as she was victorious in the 1600 meter run as well. Kinsey Clark took fifth place for the Lady Indians in the same event.
The Lady Indians had a very impressive showing the 100 meter hurdles as they claimed 3 of the top 4 spots. Seniors Lauren Briggs and Callie Arnold finished first and second, while sophomore Gabe Minnick nothced a fourth place finish, respectively. Shelby Hamilton added another medal to her repertiore as she claimed the silver medal in the 100 meter dash. Katie White took another gold medal as she was the champ in the 800 meter run. Clark had another solid showing as she was able to take sixth place. Arnold claimed her second medal on the day as she was the victor in the 300 meter hurdles. Briggs also placed in the event as she took fourth. Taylor Johnson had an impressive showing in the 200 meter dash as she was the champion of the event. The Lady Indians claimed another medal as Celina Twitchell finished as the runner-up in the pole vault. Bow was also able to grab third place in the 1600 meter relay to finish the day. Final girls standings: 1. Gothenburg 138 2. Broken Bow 134 3. Valentine 99 4. Cozad 54.5 5. Minden 53 6. Ogallala 29.5 7. Ainsworth 17 The Broken Bow boys team finished with 2 gold medals on the day, and 7 medals overall. Dustin Marten was the top performer on the day as he claimed a gold and a silver. Marten was the winner in the 110 meter hurdles and took the runner-up spot in the high jump. Mike Russell also placed in the high jump as he finished in fifth place. Senior Dan Lowe battled to a sixth place finish in the long jump event. Jake Stokely was the other gold medal winner as he was victorious in the discus. Noel Scott also placed as he took fifth. Austin Hendrickson fought hard in the pole vault and came away with a second place effort. Jason Pedersen ran well in the rainy weather and came away with a fifth place finish in the 3200 meter run. Jacob Holcomb competed in the triple jump and came away with a sixth place finish. Shane McCormick competed along with Marten in the 110 hurdles, and finished in fifth place. Ethan Doggett also placed as he took sixth in the 100 meter dash. JJ Buhlmann competed in the 800 meter run and came away with a fifth place effort. Marten and McCormick also competed in the 300 hurdles as Marten took fourth and McCormick took sixth. Derek Gaston threw his way to a sixth place finish in the shot put event. The relay teams were successful for the Indians as they claimed medals in 3 of the 4 relay events. The Indians took second in the 1600 meter relay and third in the 3200 meter relay as well as the 400 meter relay. The Indians wrap up their regular season schedule as they travel to Cozad Friday before competing in districts next Thursday. Final boys standings: 1. Gothenburg 152 2. Cozad 83 3. Ogallala 79 4.
