Thursday, 01 May 2008
ImageMax R. Doggett was the first born to Harlow H. and May E. (Garretson) Doggett, Jan. 12, 1924, at York. He passed away April 23, 2008 in his home on his ranch at Dunning, at the age of 84. Max started school in York, then attended country schools at Stromsburg, Thedford, Brewster, German Valley, north of Burwell and graduated from eighth grade at Taylor.

He rodeoed 17 1/2 years professionally in the Rodeo Cowboys Association, with the plans of owning his own ranch with the money he won. He did this while working for several ranchers in the Sandhills, ultimately owning his two ranches at Merna and Dunning.
Max served his country in the U.S. Army in 1945.
On June 14, 1953, he married Harvenna “Bonnie” Whiteman. To that union were born five children. They were married almost 53 years.
His love of life was his cattle herd and ranch. He was very proud of his 2-year-old steers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, baseball and country music.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; his parents, Harlow and May Doggett; and his grandparents.
Max leaves behind his children, Tina (Rod) Kurtzer of Fleming, Colo., Joy (Freddie) Wrightsil of Sterling, Colo., Randy (Ida) Doggett of Arthur, Casey (Jan) Doggett of Berwyn and Gloria (Marvin) Olson of Sargent; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by brothers, Gale (Erma) Doggett of Anchorage, Alaska, Dick (Elaine) Doggett of Burwell sisters, Alice Rae Rice of Burwell and Joanne Owen of Omaha, brothers, Bob (Pat) Doggett of Lakeside, Jim (Judy) Doggett of Lincoln, Harry Doggett of Bassett and John (Kathy) Doggett of Norfolk; sister-in-law Twila Will of Wausau, Wisc.; and brother-in-law Donnie (Lois) Whiteman of Broken Bow.
Funeral services were April 28, 2008 in the Brewster Community Building with Pastor Larry DeMoss officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Brewster Cemetery. Iverson Memorial Chapel of Broken Bow was in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established to the Max Doggett Memorial or the Thedford Rescue Squad.
