Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman addressed the attentive crowd by talking about how much he enjoys coming to Broken Bow. “Whenever I make the trip to Broken Bow, good things are happening here,” the Governor said, as he made his first in a series of stops at local businesses Saturday morning. The governor was on hand for the community’s May Day celebration May 2, attending seven of 10 ribbon cuttings held that morning. Photos of all 10 ceremonies can be seen on the Photo Gallery page.
The first stop was the new Pamida store, located on the west edge of Broken Bow. A large crowd gathered, and circled around the governor as he congratulated the staff of the new store. Heineman remarked on the progressiveness and growth of Broken Bow, telling citizens they should “be proud of your community.” One of the businesses holding a ribbon cutting particularly interested the governor. Shirts, Signs, Mugs & More is owned and operated by 15-year-old Broken Bow High School student Drew Schendt. Schendt, a sophomore at Broken Bow High School, custom prints items such as T-shirts, coffee mugs, key chains, plaques and a variety of other surfaces, through a heat printing process called sublimation. His business is currently open by appointment, but Schendt says once school is dismissed for the summer he will be open more. Also hosting ribbon cuttings in Broken Bow Saturday were Wild Rose Gallery, U.S. Cellular, Prairie Eyecare Center, Bow Bakery, Radio Shack at Ace Hardware, Lyne Appliance, Custer Care Center and Ag Pro Engineering & Irrigation. |
