Dale McCarney, 84, was called home to be with our Lord March 21, 2008, at UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh, Pa., after a brief illness. He and his family previously lived in Broken Bow, where he was editor of the Custer County Chief prior to moving to Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mable; and sisters, Patricia and Norma Jean. He is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Charlotte “Chi” McCarney of Pittsburgh, Pa.; sons Kimrick of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Kerrick of Utah; sisters Barbara and Peggy; brother Tom; much beloved grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Dale was born in Lanesboro, Iowa, and was a resident of Pittsburgh, Pa., for the past 19 years. In Omaha, he was national advertising manager for the Omaha World Herald. He served his country in the U.S. Army’s 375th Artillery Field Batallion, 100th Infantry Division, during World War II as Technical Sergeant. He was an avid sports fan and passionate golfer. As per Dale’s request there was no visitation. Following cremation, a private memorial service for family was held at Christ Episcopal Church in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, March 29, 2008.
