A Monday evening farm accident involving an ATV, claimed the life of an Anselmo man.
According to Custer County Sheriff Deputy Dan Spanel, a call was received by the Sheriff’s Office about 10 p.m. Monday stating that Fred Bindewald, 68 of Anselmo, was out spraying muskthistles on his ATV and had failed to return home. A neighbor had gone out and looked for him, but after having no success finding Bindewald had called the authorities.
At approximately 11 p.m. a search began involving the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff’s Posse, Nebraska State Patrol, firemen and EMT’s from both Merna and Broken Bow, and numerous neighbors and friends. At 12:20 p.m. Bindewald’s body was located in a canyon six miles west and four and one-half miles south of Merna. His four-wheeler had tipped and pinned him underneath, according to Spanel.
Bindewald was pronounced dead at the scene.
