Weekend fun abounds for Callaway and Anselmo
CALLAWAY - - The activity calendar heats up this weekend, as two Custer County towns will host annual community celebrations - Callaway and Anselmo. The Callaway Pioneer Picnic will be June 22-24, and includes lots of games and fun activities in Morgan Park Saturday and Sunday. The Seven Valleys Rodeo Association will host its annual rodeo at the arena south of Callaway beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Sunday. There will also be a teen dance Friday after the rodeo. Saturday morning starts with a fun run at 8 a.m. A craft and home based business show and sale will run at the community center from 10-4, and the parade will begin at 10:45 Saturday morning. There will be plenty of good food available, with a baked potato bar at the community center beginning at noon, and a food stand in the park all day, sponsored by the Callaway Youth Group. The ping-pong ball drop will get underway at 1 p.m., and the afternoon will also feature a bounce house, swimming, bingo and kids races and penny shower. Callaway High School alumni will have the opportunity to get together for the banquet Saturday evening beginning at 6 p.m., and a street dance will get started at 9 p.m. Sunday kicks off with the 7 Valleys Rodeo Association Trail Ride at 8 a.m.. There will be a food stand in the park from 11-6:30, Bingo at 1 p.m., and toad and turtle races at 2 p.m.. The Pioneer Picnic will conclude Sunday evening with the Rodeo. ANSELMO - - Folks will also be celebrating in Anselmo this weekend, with the 44th annual Big Sky Jubilee Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday evening will include a family fun night and free hot dog feed at the softball fields at 7 p.m., followed by an evening of Karaoke at FuBar & Grill. An appreciation pancake feed gets started at 7 a.m. Saturday morning at the fire hall, followed by the parade at 10:30. Kids bike and turtle races will follow the parade. Following the United Methodist Church dinner at the community center, a horseshoe tournament is planned for 1 p.m., and a free BBQ will get started at 6 p.m. at the fire hall. The Jubilee concludes Sunday with a Ranch Rodeo at 1 p.m. There will also be a co-ed softball tournament both Saturday and Sunday.
