Zane Harvey, 38
Zane Harvey died June 1, 2012 as a result of a tragic accident while driving a school van filled with the Broken Bow boys basketball team back home from a basketball camp.
Born Jan 8, 1974 in Broken Bow, to Robert and Monica (Scott) Harvey, Zane grew up in Stapleton, and graduated from Stapleton High School in 1992. During high school he spent the summers working on the Diamond Bar Ranch.
Zane attended the University of Nebraska - Lincoln and graduated in 1996. He followed in his Dad's footsteps and became a math teacher and a coach. While in college he was a member of Ag Men Fraternity. He was also a student athletic trainer working with the wrestling team and the football team that won the '95 National Championship.
He taught at Beatrice for 2 1/2 years, and has been teaching at Broken Bow High School since 1999. He was the assistant football coach for all 13 years at Broken Bow. He was the assistant girls basketball coach and worked with the boys basketball team for the last three years as the assistant coach and one year as the head coach. He was also the head boys golf coach. He loved to edit the video of each game to help prepare for the next opponent. His coaching highlights included being a part of two State Championship basketball teams, the Beatrice boys in 1998 and the Broken Bow girls in 2003. He was part of many state playoff football teams, including the team in 2009 that missed going to the State Championship by a few points.
He was very proud of his golf team that nearly qualified for state this year and the two boys that did qualify for state.
Zane loved to golf and was a board member of the Broken Bow Country Club. He also loved to hunt, listen to Christian Rock music, play Fantasy Football, and watch anything that had to do with Husker sports, especially football.
Zane's faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was also very important to him. He was the FCA leader at Broken Bow and helped with many FCA Huddle Camps. He was a Deacon at the Broken Bow Evangelical Free Church and spent every Sunday morning running the sound and video equipment while his brother preached.
Zane is survived by his parents, Robert and Monica Harvey of Stapleton; brother, Scott (Jennie) Harvey of Broken Bow and two nephews who he loved very much, Joshua and Austin Harvey of Broken Bow.
