Custer County Fatality-Former Lawmaker

BROKEN BOW, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say a former state senator has died after his pickup collided with a semitrailer near Broken Bow in central Nebraska.

Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow says Howard Lamb, of Anselmo, died at a Kearney hospital on Tuesday. He was 91.

The accident occurred around 1:15 p.m. Monday, about a mile south of Broken Bow on Nebraska Highway 21. Custer County Sheriff Dan Osmond says Lamb was driving on the highway when he tried to turn into a private driveway but collided with the oncoming big rig.

In honor of Veterans Day we are throwing back to the November 15, 1979 issue of the Custer County Chief.

Member of the Broken Bow Veterans of Foregin Wars color guard were on hand early Monday morning as part of the city's Veterans Day festivities. Standing (l-r) are Bill Mohatt, John Birnie, Jim Mayo and Al Brand.
Several local residents were on hand to mark the occasion which honors those people who have sacrificially served our county to preserve its freedom.

Veterans Soup Supper Tonight

The VFW Post 3576 will be hosting its annual soup supper at the Municipal Building in Broken Bow on Nov. 11 from 4-7 p.m.
Advanced tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12 and are available from any VFW member or American Legion member.
Tickets at the door are $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12.
Children age 5 and under are free.

Chris Stapleton cleaned up with 3 awards and a duet with Justin Timberlake. Miranda Lambert brightened her day with a win for female vocalist of the year. And as expected, Luke Bryan took home the hardware for male entertainer of the year. Congrats to all, and what a great show!

Kids of fallen soldiers to be honored with Lincoln flight

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Children and wives of fallen soldiers who served in Afghanistan and Iraq are being honored in a flight to Lincoln.

A plane carrying 22 mothers and 35 children is scheduled to depart from Omaha's Eppley Airfield and arrive at the Lincoln Airport Saturday morning as part of the Gold Star Kids Honor Flight. The flight is organized by Patriotic Productions, an Omaha nonprofit that has organized trips to Washington, D.C., for World War II and Korean War veterans.
