Barbara J. Garrett, 82 of Arvada, Colo., formerly of Redondo Beach, Calif. and Arnold, passed away Dec. 2, 2010. She was born March 10, 1928, in Arnold to George and Ethel (Maxson) Scott.
She graduated from Arnold High School in 1946. She married Ivan Garrett of Stapleton March 19, 1949. They had four children; Ronald Lee of Hurricane, Utah, Marla Jean Heckenlively of Firestone, Colo., Patti Ann Nelson of Arvada, Colo., and Donald Dee of Redondo Beach, Calif.
They moved to Redondo Beach in 1953, and lived there for 45 years before locating to Arvada due to health issues.
Barbara lived her life supporting her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in attending various activities and events.
She is survived by her four children, Ron and wife Riitta, Maria Heckenlively and husband Rawdy, Patti Nelson and husband Glen, and Don; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren, and eight brothers and sisters.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ivan; her parents; one great-grandchild, Ana Pouha; sisters, Maxine and Nellie Mae; and brother, Eugene.
Funeral services will be Dec. 11, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at the Arnold Baptist Church in Arnold with Pastor Irv Jennings officiating. Viewing will be at the Arnold Funeral Home Friday, Dec. 10, from 4:30-7:30 p.m.
In memory of Barbara, donations can be made to the Arnold Baptist Church Building Fund, Arnold Ne, 69120.
Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Nelson and Rawdy Heckenlively. Pallbearers will be Brian Garrett, Braxton Garrett, Brayden Garrett, Jeremy Witthuhn, Samson Fisher and Joel Nelson. Music will be provided by Barbara’s sisters, Marlene Rempel and Charlene Mahnke.
Interment will be in the Arnold Cemetery. Arnold Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
