SARGENT/BURWELL WRESTLERS BATTLE INJURIES TO BEGIN SEASON
SARGENT/BURWELL -- Some of the Sargent/Burwell wrestlers will begin the season healing injuries sustained during the late football season. With two to three of their best wrestler out until after Christmas, the main focus will be getting and staying healthy.
Sargent/Burwell returns four junior wrestlers with state tournament qualifications. Jed Fenske was a third place finisher at 145 pounds last year. Tanner Balfour also qualified for state last year at 152 pounds. Brett Mauler, 160 and Kirby Pomplun, 119 sustained injuries and did not qualify last year but both qualified for state in 2009.
Sargent/Burwell will have a good mix of upperclassmen and underclassmen competing to fill all the weight classes. Seniors Grady McIntosh, Theo Williams and Grant Hitchcock join junior Sam Lee along with sophomores Sage Gideon and Justin Miller to fill the open weights.
Freshmen Evan Gideon and Dakota Divine will also challenge for a varsity position.
