Harley Eugene Poland was born Aug. 24, 1936, to Earl and Ruey Poland in Sargent. He passed away Nov. 27, 2010, at the Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk.
Harley attended school in Sargent before moving to Broken Bow. After school he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in the Korean War.
Harley married Dorothy Rohde Nov. 13, 1958. This union was blessed with four children. Harley and Dorothy recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary.
Harley worked for Belville Construction, Crybred Implement, Keeley Implement and retired from the city of Valentine Water Department in 1988, after 22 years of service. He enjoyed woodworking, welding, spending time at the cabin and fishing with his kids and grandkids.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lyle; and one sister, Joyce Stevenson.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Valentine; sons, Jerry of Valentine, Eric and wife Becky of Valentine, Terry and wife Jean of Dodge, and Harold and wife Lynn of Wayne; grandchildren, Eric and wife Julie, James, Nicole, Lonnie, Trevor, Troy, Dylan and Hunter. He is also survived by one brother, Boyd and wife Evelyn of Broken Bow, and one sister, Josie Peterson of Huntsville, Ala.
Funeral services were Dec. 1, at the Second Wind Church in Valentine with Pastor Bruce Beebout officiating. Burial was at Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine. Memorials are suggested to the Diabetes Foundation.
Sandoz Chapel of the Pine was entrusted with service arrangements.
