ARCADIA -- The SandhillsThedford girls and boys basketball teams swept the Arcadia Holiday Tournament last week. The Sandhills/Thedford Lady Knights defeated the Arcadia Lady Huskies 43-27 for the girls championship while the Sandhills/Thedford Knights defeated the Litchfield Trojans 65-37 for the boys championship.
The Lady Knights held a narrow 2-point lead at halftime then outscored the Lady Huskies 22-8 in the second half for the double-digit win. Shelby Saner led the Lady Knights with 19 points followed by Taylor Marten with 6, Courtney Jameson 5, Kadi McFadden 5, Sarah Miles 4, Kaitlin Marten 2 and Michaela Miles 2.
Sapphire Sillivan led the Lady Huskies with 12 points followed by Shayla Trotter with 11, Gabi Ritz 2 and Darian Williams 2.
Leading rebounders in the game were Saner with 13 boards for the Lady Knights and Trotter with 17 boards for the Lady Huskies.
In the boys championship game, the Knights jumped out to an early 14-5 first quarter lead. The Trojans were able to gain momentum in the second quarter but the Knights claimed a 27-17 lead at halftime. In the second half, the Knights increased the tempo of the ball game as they out-hustled the Trojans to the loose balls and used their pressure defense to force turnovers which resulted in easy shots on the offensive end of the court. The Knights outscored the Trojans 38-20 in the second half which led to the 65-37 victory.
Kale Anderson led the Knights with a game high 29 points. Also scoring for the Knights were Trey Spencer with 11 points, Cole Taylor with 9, Tyler Lee 5, Ty Sierks 5, Brady Marten 3, Seth Hanna 2 and Blayne Bradley 1.
The Trojans were led in scoring by Tyson Howard with 11 points followed by Adam Kucera with 8, Nat Schrock 6, Kaleb Sekutera 4, Michael Heapy 3, Sam Reynolds 2, Danny Woolery 2 and Austin Kramer 1.
Lee led the Knights with 11 rebounds while Kucera led the Trojans with 10 rebounds.
The Loup County Lady Wildcats defeated the Litchfield Lady Trojans 46-42 in the girls third place game. The Lady Wildcats outscored the Lady Trojans 20-13 in the first quarter, but the Lady Trojans took a 24-21 lead at halftime with an 11-1 second quarter run. The Lady Wildcats tied the game a 30 before outscoring the Lady Trojans 16-12 in the final quarter for the win. Shayna Dunbar scored 15 points to lead the Lady Wildcats in scoring followed by Katelyn Tucker with 11, Haylee Jordan 10, Hannah Meeks 6 and Monica Keith 4.
The Lady Trojans were led in scoring by Kelsey Unick and Taylor Pickar with 8 points each. Also scoring for Litchfield were Falicia Shepardson with 7 points followed by Hope Downer with 5, Alivia Wardyn 5, Tiana Stithem 4, Kaitlin Kratzer 3 and Bridgette Janssen 2.
The Loup County Wildcats took an early 13-5 first quarter lead over Arcadia in the boys third place game. The Arcadia Huskies rallied in the second quarter to outscore the Wildcats 21-6 and led at halftime 26-19. The Wildcats were unable to reclaim the lead in the second half as the Huskies outscored them in each of the final two quarters giving the Huskies the third place win 54-32.
Dalton Williams scored a game high 22 points to lead Arcadia. Also scoring for the Huskies was Brady Chilewski with 12 points, Matthew Quick 9, Cameron Charles 6, Michael Chelewski 2 and Luke Schmauder 2.
Loup County was led in scoring by Tyrel Hinton with 8 points followed by Tyler Barta with 7, Brandon Barker 6, Trey Caldwell 3, Justin Stapleman 3, Dylan Strohl-Yeoman 3 and Andrew Ritchie 2.
In first round girls action Sandhills/Thedford defeated Loup County 50-40. Scoring for the Lady Knights were Saner with 14 points, Jonnie Staub 10, Tylee Coffman 7, M. Miles 7, T. Marten 5, McFadden 3, K. Marten 2 and S. Miles 2.
The Lady Wildcats were led in scoring by Dunbar with 17 points followed by Meeks with 9, Tucker 7, Beth Gideon 5 and Keith 2.
In the other first round girls game, the Lady Huskies defeated the Lady Trojans 46-36. Sillivan led the Lady Huskies with 20 points followed by Trotter with 15, Ritz 7, Williams 2, Demi Dorsey 1 and Hollie O’Brien 1.
The Lady Trojans were led in scoring by Unick’s 12 points. Following Unick in scoring was Shepardson with 6 points, Pickar 5, Stithem 4, Wardyn 4, Janssen 3 and Kratzer 2.
The Sandhills/Thedford Knight easily defeated Loup County 65-22 in boys first round action. The Knights were led by Anderson’s game high 26 points followed by Lee with 11, Sierks 9, Marten 7, Spencer 3, Matt McLeod 3, Mitch Spencer 3, Colton Schroeder 2 and Taylor 1.
Hinton led the Wildcats with 9 points followed by Barta with 7, Strohl-Yeomans 4 and Caldwell 2.
The Litchfield Trojans advanced to the championship game with their first round win over Arcadia 55-42. Sekutera led the Trojans with 14 points followed by Kucera with 12, Howard 9, Woolery 6, Heapy 6, Reynolds 4, Schrock 2 and Kramer 2.
Chilewski’s game high 19 points led the Huskies in scoring followed by Quick with 12, Schmauder 4, TJ Oltman 3, Chelewski 2 and Williams 2.
