The Broken Bow Public Schools Board of Education met in a special meeting Tuesday afternoon for the primary purpose of approving a new teacher contract.
The meeting had been postponed from Monday, due to the weather.
Included on the agenda was the approval of a teacher contract for Michelle Miller as the new high school business teacher. Though Miller has worked as a CPA for the past several years, she has always maintained her teaching certification. BBPS Interim Superintendent Dr. Virginia Moon told the board that Miller felt this was a good time for her to get back into the classroom. Board member Don Davis added that he believes Miller’s business experience will prove to be an asset in her position.
Miller’s contract is for the second half of the school year, beginning Jan. 3.
New officers for the board were elected at the meeting as well. They are:
President - Michelle Zlomke
Vice President - Tracy Popp
Treasurer - John Evans
Alberta Crawley was appointed board secretary.
Other items on the agenda which required no action were:
* Operations Director Joe Shea presented an update on work that has been done at the schools during Christmas break, noting the staff had changed out 2,000 light bulbs during that period. Shea also informed the board the school will not be getting a new lift for the Middle School as had been discussed previously. This is due to federal regulations concerning size and space issues. The current lift will be grandfathered in.
* Board members discussed the various board committees, their likes and dislikes, and where they feel they could best serve. Each board member will be assigned to three committees.
Following the discussion, the board adjourned into closed session for the purpose of discussing administrator contracts. No action was taken.
The board will meet in a regular monthly meeting Monday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m., following their annual board retreat.
