Geraldine Frances (Smith) Russell, 92, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, in Peoria, Ariz.
Retired from California State Service, she was born in Broken Bow, March 18, 1918, and was a graduate of Broken Bow High School. She attended Hastings Business College and for a time worked in Broken Bow and Kearney, before the family moved to Sacramento, Calif.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Shelia Russell of Florida; daughter, Kay Russell (Milius) of Kansas, and daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Mike Blake of Glendale, Ariz. Other survivors include her sister, Maxine (Smith) Glaze of Broken Bow; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Eugene; parents, Herbert and Bertha Smith; four brothers; two sisters, and her grandson Brian Milius.
She was a 55-year member of Order of Eastern Star, and member of Daughters of the Nile and First Methodist Church, Sun City, Ariz. Graveside services will be March 18, 2011, in Broken Bow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, Peoria, Arizona, or Daughter’s of the Nile, a Shrine organization that supports 22 hospitals for children.
