Martelle Anita Ritz, 93 of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away Jan. 7, 2011, at Bridgeview Estates in Twin Falls.
Martelle was born April 7, 1917, in Westerville, the daughter of Henry Giles and Margaret (Metta) Boeltz Giles. She grew up and attended schools in Nebraska. Martelle furthered her education at the Kearney State Teachers College and taught school in a one-room school house for seven years.
Martelle married Arnold J. Ritz Aug. 8, 1942, in Weatherford, Okla. Together they raised two children, Judy and Bradley. In 1955, Martelle and Arnold moved to Twin Falls, where they had lived since.
Martelle enjoyed painting, sewing and reading. Her love was her family and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was active in her church, Our Savior Lutheran Church, in Twin Falls.
Martelle is survived by her daughter, Judy (Brent) Hodder of Virginia; son, Bradley (Jacqueline) Ritz of Maine; four grandchildren, Cassandra Warfel of Maryland, Metta Smith of Texas, Molly Schalk of New Mexico, and Matt Hodder of Texas; seven great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Emily, Blake, Alexis, Allyson, Garrett and Martelle; four sisters, Jayne Ashworth of Utah, Carol (Warren) Ritz of Illinois, Bethel Gregory of Colorado, and Beverly Jablonski of Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Ritz, her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
A celebration of Martelle’s life was Jan. 14, 2011, at Reynolds Funeral Chapel in Twin Falls with Pastor Scott Berner officiating. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Park.
