The Litchfield Trojans became the 2011 Loup Valley Conference champions last Friday night. In the boy’s championship game, the Mullen Broncos jumped out to an early 15-10 first quarter lead but the Litchfield Trojans took over the lead in the second quarter to lead 24-21 at halftime.
The Trojans increased their lead in the second half with half of their points coming from the free throw line. Led by Tyson Howard, the Trojans made 15 of 26 free throw attempts. Howard made 10 of 12 in the second half and was 8 of 8 from the line in the final quarter. The Trojans outscored the Broncos 29-24 in the seond half leading to the 53-45 win and the LVC championship.
“The boys played with a lot of heart in a big time game,” said Litchfield head coach Dan Bolling. “They bought into the game plan and executed it to perfection. Playing team basketball both on offense and defense has made us a more complete team.”
Howard led the Trojans with 17 points folllowed by Adam Kucera with 16 points, Sam Reynolds 12, Kaleb Sekutera 4, Danny Woolery 2 and Nat Schrock 2.
The Broncos were led in scoring by Gabe Connealy’s 18 points. Also scoring for Mullen were Jake Spies with 9 points followed by Riley Rice with 7, Zach Call 7, Nathan Vinton 2 and Braden Storer 2.
