ALLIANCE -- The Sandhills/Thedford Knights are returning to the Boys State Basketball Tournament for the second year in a row. The Knights were victorious in the D1-6 District Final against Crawford 60-36. Winning the district championship qualified the Knights in the Class D1 tournament field.
Sandhills/Thedford’s Kale Anderson was off to a fast start Tuesday night scoring 10 of the first 13 points by the Knights. The Knights lead early in the first quarter but Crawford came back to end the first quarter trailing 13-11. Crawford took a brief lead in the second quarter then the Knights went on a 12-2 scoring run to end the first half with a 26-17 lead. The Knight scoring run was capped off with Cole Taylor’s buzzer-beater to end the half. Anderson scored 15 of his 23 total points in the first half for the Knights.
The third quarter was as productive as the first two for the Knights as the scored 13 points in each of the first three quarters. The Knights increased their lead to 39-23 at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Sandhills/Thedford’s Tyler Lee scored 12 of his 19 total points to help the Knights put the game out of reach for Crawford, securing the district championship.
Also scoring for the Knights were Brady Marten with 5 points, Cole Taylor with 4, Tanner Drews 3, Ty Sierks 3 and Matt McLeod 2. As a team, the Knights only committed 10 turnovers but more importantly collected 44 rebounds.
The Knights now wait for the Class D1 State Tournament pairings to be released later this week.
