Robert “Bob” Leroy Fiske, a native of Custer County, died Jan. 3, 2011 in Henderson, Nev.
Bob was born Sept. 2, 1923, to Celestia Ellen Dutton and James Bryan Fiske. He was a 1942 graduate of Broken Bow High School and was a member of the National Honor Society.
Bob entered the United States Navy in January 1943, and served as a quartermaster on the battleship Pennsyl-vania during World War II. He was stationed near Nagasaki, Japan at the end of the war.
He continued his professional life in the United States Civil Service in Yokohama, Japan, retiring at age 72. Bob married Kimiko Sugiyama. Two daughters, Mary Jo and Donna, were born to the couple.
After his retirement, Bob and Kimiko retired to Las Vegas. Bob was a life-long Cornhuskers fan. He was an avid runner, winning awards in marathons and coaching younger runners.
His daughters of Stockton, Calif.; his sister-in-law, Margaret Hannah Fiske, and numerous nieces and nephews survive him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold Fay, Kenneth Claude, James Charles, and Paul Bryan Fiske; and sisters, Opal Mae Shultz and Eva Jean Volquardsen.
Internment will take place at the New Helena Cemetery.
