Theresa (Tracy) Elliott, 94 of Thedford, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at her home. Funeral services were Saturday, June 4, at United Congregational Church in Thedford. Interment was at Hillcrest Cemetery at Thedford with Arnold Mullen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Cemetery.
Theresa Barbara Abraham was born at home Dec. 3, 1916, to Albert and Sophia (Kolar) Abraham near Ravenna. She was called Tracy from the time she entered school at the age of 4.
Tracy worked in various homes helping with family expenses until she married harry Elliott, April 5, 1937. The couple moved to the Sandhills, living north of Thedford.
They raised their five children on the ranch. Tracy always grew a garden, canned, and raised turkeys and chickens.
In 1956, the family moved in to Thedford and operated the Skelly Gas Station until Harry’s unexpected death in 1962. Tracy worked at the Cowpoke Inn for nearly 18 years, then at the Morris Cafe, retiring at the age of 75. Her wages were $1 an hour.
Her life was full with family and friends. Tracy said her 80th and 90th birthday celebrations and family reunions were special to her.
It was a sad time for Tracy when her daughter, Delores Barnes, passed away suddenly Dec. 5, 2007.
Tracy leaves behind her sons, William (Connie) of Thedford, Ronnie (Virginia) of Valentine, Loren of Valentine, Wayne (MerriAnn) of Cozad; son-in-law, Myron Barnes of North Platte; 11 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Elsie Lamma; sisters-in-law, Maxine Ayres, Evelyn Friel and Edith Abraham; and many friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws; husband, Harry; one great-grandson; one great-great-grandson; three brothers; one sister, and five sisters-in-law.
