Roger John Krout, 69 of Arnold, passed away June 8, 2011, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. He was born March 22, 1942, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to John (Jack) W. and Ann Mary Gstohl Krout. He grew up in Marathon and Lake Park, Iowa, and graduated from high school in Lake Park.
Roger joined the Army March 5, 1964, and served during the Vietnam War He was honorably discharged March 2, 1966.
Roger was united in marriage to Marla Hall Sheets in 1981, in Arnold. The couple lived in Arnold where he was employed by the Nebraska Department of Roads and later became crew chief.
His first love was his kids and grandkids. He was a member of the Flat Landers Car Club and enjoyed restoring classic cars and fishing with his brother and sister-in-law.
Survivors include step-sons, Bradley and Jeffery (Jen) Sheets; step-daughters, Kendra (Mike) Nelson and Sherla Streit; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; niece, Amy Krout Horn and Gabriel Horn; sister-in-law, Sandy Krout, and ex-wife, Marla Krout.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Merle.
Services were June 13, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in ARnold with the Rev. Irving Jennings officiating. Burial was in Ft. McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell. Memorials may go to the Arnold Fire and Rescue. Arnold Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
