James R. Worth, 70 of Grand Island, died Saturday, July 9, 2011, at St. Francis Medical Center. Celebration of life service was Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home Chapel with Dan Naranjo officiating. Burial of ashes will be at a later date in the Merna Cemetery.
Mr. Worth was born Nov. 29, 1940, at Merna, the son of Claude and Margaret (Simonson) Worth.
Survivors include his wife, Margie; daughters, Cheryl Worth of Brush, Colo., Kathy (Floyd) Maret of Grand Island and Debbie Downey of Grand Island; son, Jamey Worth of Grand Island; step-children, David Williams of Omaha and Daniel (Stacey) Williams of Hastings; and brothers, Richard C. Worth of Merna and Dennis Worth of Merna.
Other survivors are 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sandra Louise Worth and grandson, Tyler.
James was raised in Merna where he graduated from high school in 1959. He was united in marriage to Margie Ann Sole Nov. 9, 1985. They made Grand Island their home.
He drove truck for various companies including Romans for eight years, Delicious Foods, Ore Ida Foods, Country General and Rawhide Carriers, Inc.
James just liked to sit on the porch and watch the grass grow. He enjoyed working on engines and smelling up the garage. He enjoyed a good laugh and a great joke. He enjoyed going fishing and telling stories of the one that he got to eat.
He enjoyed getting together with friends and family partaking of a great meal and a couple of adult beverages, "What better than that."
