Leland Fecht, age 79 of Berwyn, died Friday, July 15, 2011, at his home near Berwyn. Funeral services were Wednesday, July 20, at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with the Rev. Dennis Davenport officiating. Burial was in the Janesville Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials have been established to the Leland Fecht Memorial Fund.
Leland Fecht was born Feb. 22, 1932, at Willow Island, to Rudolph G. and Maggie (Shaffer) Fecht. Leland grew up in the Elm Creek area and graduated from Elm Creek High School in 1950.
Leland served in the United States Army 1952 until 1954. He was married to Retha Van Cleave at Elm Creek Dec. 21, 1954. In 1970, the family moved to the farm near Berwyn.
Leland was a member of the American Legion at Mason City, D.A.V., Ainsworth Horseshoe Club and greatly enjoyed fishing.
Leland is survived by his wife, Retha of Ansley; two sons, Terry (Mary Ann) Fecht of Dannebrog, and Roger (Lisa) Fecht of Ansley, and his daughter, Lois Peisiger of Alda; daughter-in-law, Arvilla Fecht of Arcadia; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Pat Hird of Kearney, Linda (Rob) Mitchell of Council Bluffs, Clara Case of Cozad, Martha Downs of Missouri; two brothers, Gary Fecht of Axtell, and Steve Fecht of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons David Fecht and Dwayne Fecht; brothers, Richard, Harold, Clayton and Kenny; sisters, Mary, Rosemarie and Shirley, and a son-in-law, John Peisiger.
