Floyde R. Loy, 64 of Cairo, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services were Tuesday, Aug. 9, at First Baptist Church in Cairo with Pastor Darrell Holzinger and the Rev. Jack Bolling officiating. Interment was in the Wood River Mennonite Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family or the donor’s choice. Apfel Funeral Home of Cairo is serving the family.
Floyde was born Feb. 26, 1947, in Broken Bow, the son of Kenneth and Bernice (Allen) Loy. He grew up in Ansley, graduating from Ansley High School May 25, 1965.
He entered the Nebraska National Guard July 12, 1966, serving during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged July 11, 1972.
Floyde married Barbara Ann Gascho Nov. 23, 1968, at First Baptist Church in Grand Island. The couple lived in Broken Bow where he worked for F.A. Bates as a mechanic. They moved to Grand Island in 1973, where he worked at Deliscious Foods and then Pacific Tools. In 1975, the family moved to Cairo where Floyde started Loy Sanitation. He had that business for 15 years before working as warehouse manager for Weathercraft Roofing. He also worked at Walmart for a few years.
Floyde attended the First Baptist Church, the Wood River Mennonite Church and currently the Son Light Bible Fellowship. He enjoyed collecting race cars, flowers, antiques and auctioneering.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Cairo; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Carrie Loy of Wood River and Lonnie and Christi Loy of Cairo; one daughter and son-in-law, Lorie and Doug Earnest of Grand Island; five grandchildren, Chris Loy, Makenna Loy, Emily Loy, Micah Loy and Tyler Earnest; his mother, Bernice of Cairo; and a sister, Ruby Howell of Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth.
