Richard L. "Dick" Rieckman, 65 of Alvo, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, in Omaha after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Dick was born Aug. 17, 1945, in Lincoln, to Donald O. and Iola I. (Rosencrantz) Rieckman. He was a graduate of Eagle High School class of 1963.
Dick was married to Sandra I. Polenz May 5, 1967. He was a life-long farmer, and a member of First United Methodist Church of Waverly.
Funeral services were Aug. 6 at First United Methodist Church in Waverly with Pastor James Wallasky and Pastor Robert Neben officiating. Graveside services were that afternoon in the Callahan Cemetery in Murdock. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Waverly Elevator Fund, or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. Roper and Sons Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Surviving family members include his wife of 44 years, Sandra; daughters and sons-in-law, Tracy and Beryl Popp of Broken Bow, and Tammy and Brad Rikli of Murdock; grandchildren, Charmayne and Jordan Popp, Miguel, David, Sergio, Mia and Liana Rikli; mother, Iola Rieckman, and sister, Jean Rieckman, both of Waverly; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Judy Rieckman of Vancouver, Wash.; brother-in-law, Roger Polenz and wife Connie of Sterling, Colo.; sister-in-law, Margie Polenz of Bellevue; parents-in-law, Kenneth and Norma Polenz of Waverly; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald, and brother-in-law, Dick Polenz.
The family wishes to extend their love and gratitude to the physicians and support staff of the UNMC Oncology Department with additional thanks to the physicians and staff at Saint Elizabeth's Oncology and staff at Nebraska Hematology and Oncology Group.
