Marie M. Allen, age 87, of North Platte, passed away Feb. 9, 2012, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. She was born Feb. 17, 1924, in Mason City, to Harry and Elva Tracy Holm. Marie graduated from Bridgeport High School.
After graduation she taught school in rural western Nebraska. She married James McVay in 1943. Marie traveled extensively with her husband who was in the Army Air Corps. Their travels included Alaska. To this union three children were born; James, Sue and John.
After James’ death, Marie moved to North Platte in 1954. She worked at various places eventually retiring from the University of Nebraska North Platte Station.
Marie was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Lake Maloney Ladies’ Golf Association. She loved to play golf, read, garden and spend time with her family. She enjoyed keeping up with current events.
Survivors include Sue (John) Reeves of Cherokee, Ala., and Tracy (Ted) Bridges of Omaha; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Major James C. McVay and David F. Allen; sons, James C. McVay III and John R. McVay; grandchildren, Barbara Bockus, John D. Bockus and Douglas L. Bockus; brother, Roger Holm; and a sister, Alice Bauer.

Cremation was chosen and a private family inurnment was held at the North Platte Cemetery.
