TAYLOR - - The Nebraska Department of Roads will hold an Information Open House March 15, regarding the replacement of the North Loup Bridge on U.S. Highway 183 north of Taylor.
The open house will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Loup County Community Center, 406 4th Street, in Taylor.
The proposed project would be constructed entirely within Loup County. This project would build permanent repairs for flood damage that occurred in 2010. These repairs include roadway reconstruction and the replacement of the existing 90-foot bridge with a bridge that is
approximately 300-feet in length.
Three alternatives will be presented: build onto the existing alignment, build to the west, or build to the east, of the existing bridge.
The On-Alignment alternative would have the least environmental impact, utilize the existing roadway, cost less and take the least amount of construction time but would require a detour of US-183 traffic.
The East or West alignment alternatives would use the existing bridge for traffic while the new bridge is being built. Additional information on the alternatives being considered and the proposed detour route will be available at the meeting.
The proposed construction is scheduled to commence in the spring of 2013, and take approximately one to two years depending on the alternative chosen. Acquisition of new right-of-way and temporary easements, as well as mitigating for impacted wetlands, would be required if either the East or West alternative is chosen.
Personnel from the State Department of Roads will be available to answer questions, receive comments and discuss any aspect of the proposed highway improvement project.
Information regarding the project will be available after the meeting on the NDOR website at www.transportation . nebraska.gov/projects by clicking on the "Taylor North Bridge" link.
