Clifford Wilson Christensen, 93, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island. Memorial services March 10, 2012, at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jay Vetter officiating. Burial was in the Grand Island City Cemetery with military honors provided by the United Veterans Color Guard. Kleine Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Christensen was born Jan. 24, 1919, at Dannevirke to William and Martha Christensen.
Clifford is survived by two sons and their spouses, Wayne and Angie Christensen and Dale and Rhonda Christensen, all of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Katherine (Carland); his parents; son Jerry Dean Christensen, and brothers Lester and Willard.
Additional survivors include six grandchildren, Alissa and Kasey Christensen, Beth Christensen, Kristen (Christen-sen) Arlt, and Eric and Stephen Christensen and one great grandchild, Clayten Arlt.
Clifford grew up in Dannevirke and farmed as he was growing up. He graduated from Elba High School and soon joined the army. He served during WWII from 1942 and was Honorably Discharged Nov. 25, 1946.
He married Katherine Carland Sept. 14, 1952, and they made their home in Grand Island. Clifford enjoyed various employments before owning his own business being a paint contractor in Grand Island. He retired in 1982.
Clifford enjoyed the fishing and camping family vacations they took every year to the Black Hills in South Dakota. Clifford also enjoyed the family trips to Kansas City going to the Royals games and going to Worlds of Fun. He was an avid Royals, Cubs, and Husker fan.
Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
