The Indians got off to a decent start to their track season at the Hastings Invite on Friday. The mens team finished 5th while the womens team placed 6th.
It was senior Cody Dierking and junior Tanner Briggs highlighting the day for the mens side.
Dierking paced his way to a victory in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:41.24. Briggs came up with a victory in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.16.
Briggs also earned another point for his team with a 6th place finish in the 300 meter hurdles.
“The 110’s are my favorite race because I’m good at them,” Briggs said. “The 300’s are okay, but I’m hoping to go to State in the 110 at least.”
The mens 4x400 relay team finished 3rd with a time of 3:40.15. The members consisted of junior Alex White, junior Nate Evans, junior Andrew Pracht and senior Justin McCullough.
McCullough would also place 6th in the long jump. His distance reached 19’2.5.

Her 1st place finish with a time of 1:02.92 set a new Hastings Invite record.
“It felt really good to accomplish that much in the first meet,” Scott said.”I was really happy with my time, but I know I still need to improve on it.”
Scott hopes to shave her time in the 400 meter dash down to under a minute by the end of the season.
It was only her second time running the 400 meter dash, but she did manage to shave three seconds off her time from when she ran it in junior high school.
Freshman Shannon Myers competed in the 1600 and 3200 meter run in which she placed 6th and 3rd respectively.
She finished the 1600 meter run in just under six minutes and completed the 3200 meter run in 12:57.28.
