A two-RBI single by Jake McCormick followed up by an RBI single from Michael Coleman helped Broken Bow secure the West division title Wednesday night.
Broken Bow held off Holdredge for a 9-4 victory. The victory helped them stay undefeated in league play this season. Their overall record stands at 13-2.
While the winning streak for Broken Bow stands at seven games, coach Jerry Pomplun would like to see some more improvements out of the team, particularly on the offensive side.
"I'm happy we won because it wrapped up our side of the league, but I know we can play better," Pomplun said. "Holdredge can play better too. Their mistakes hurt them more than our mistakes hurt us. That was the difference in the game."
The improvements are going to need to come soon, as the season is drawing to a close. Broken Bow will be in Kearney this weekend for a tournament. They take on Kearney Little Ceasers at 8 p.m. Kearney earned a 5-3 victory the last time these two teams met in Broken Bow.
"(We need to) hit better," Pomplun said. "We're winning right now, but we're not playing well. We need to stop depending on the other teams helping us and start producing ourselves."View more articles in:
