The Custer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle accident shortly before 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 13, five and one half miles north of Broken Bow on Highway 2.
A 1988 GMC pickup, driven by David Archambault, 23 of Oconto, was traveling north on Highway 2 when the driver attempted to make a U-turn at Road 802 and Highway 2. A second vehcile, a 1991 Chevy sedan driven by 55-year-old Michael McAlevy of Merna, was also traveling north behind the Archambault vehicle.
The pickup failed to yield to the vehicles behind him. McAlevy went to the other land to avoid collision and was struck in the right rear of the vehicle by the pickup. Archambault’s pickup then did a 180-degree spin and came to rest in the north bound lane.
Luckily, neither driver was injured badly enough for transport to the hospital.
The Archambault vehicle sustained and estimated $3,000 damage while the McAlevy vehicle’s damage was estimated at $6,000. Alcohol was not suspected, and both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
