James D. Drake, 80, of Kearney, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at St. Luke's Good Samaritan Village. A graveside memorial service was Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Litchfield Cemetery with the Rev. He was born Sept. 19, 1931, in Broken Bow, to Roland and Dorothy (Archer) Drake and graduated from Thedford High School in 1949. January 18, 1953, he married Fay Ward in Berwyn. They lived in Berwyn, Broken Bow and Kearney.
Jim worked on a farm, at a creamery and at Rockwell for 13 years. He was the first employee hired at Eaton Corporation. He retired in 1992, and suffered a stroke in 1999. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kearney and a past member of the Berwyn Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Fay of Kearney; son, James and wife Mindy of Kearney; daughter, Jolene Drake of Kearney; brothers, Larry of North Dakota, Rollie and Illene of Axtell and Sherril and Kathy of Kearney; grandchildren, Gypsy, Heather, Jacoby and Dylan; great-grandchildren, Myka, Jaxson, Jaela and Caidynn; several nieces and nephews; and special aunt, Shirley of Broken Bow.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.
