John Wesley Churchill, age 91 of Broken Bow Ne. went to be with the Lord on January 8, 2013.
"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away"
Revelation 21 v: 4
John Churchill was born Feb. 11, 1920, in Mount Vernon, NY, to the late Solomon and Edna Churchill and was the youngest of five children.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Jordan Churchill, Charles Churchill, Edna Churchill, and Alexander Churchill.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Ruth Churchill of Broken Bow, two children, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
John Churchill was married to Ellen Ruth Headden Aug. 1, 1942, in Mt. Vernon, NY. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in August 2012.
Following their marriage John enlisted in the US Army 793rd Field Artillery Battalion and fought in the European theater. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the Normandy Invasion.
John lived and worked in New York until his retirement. He was an active member of the Dunwoodie Baptist Church in Yonkers, NY and served as a Trustee for many years.
John and Ruth moved to Broken Bow in 2004, and resided at Off Broadway Apartments.
John and Ruth have two children: Christian John Churchill and wife Patricia DePalma, and Ellen Anne (Churchill) Thomas and husband RJ Thomas; five grandchildren, Ronald C. Larsen, Eric John Larsen, Christian John Churchill, Sean Wesley Churchill and Christina M. Zane; five great-grandchildren, Sianne M. Churchill, Alaniz M. Churchill, Vallerie M. Churchill, Michelle M. Churchill and Kaylla M. Churchill.
Memorial Services will be Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with Pastor Bob Winn officiating. A register book may be signed at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
