Leila Johnson, age 96, of rural Anselmo, died Thursday Jan. 31, 2013, at her home near Anselmo.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Broken Bow with the Rev. Mary Jane Gockley officiating. Burial was in the Merna Cemetery at Merna, with Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow in charge of arrangements.Memorials may be made to the Broken Bow Library.
Leila Johnson was born June 22, 1916 in Gross, Nebr., to Carl Antoine and Ruth (Keller) Micheel. She grew up and attended school in the Thedford and Wood Lake communities.
She attended Chadron State College for two years and later the Chicago Art Institute.
May 1, 1942, Leila married Earl Johnson in Washington D.C. Leila was active in St John's Episcopal Church in Broken Bow, and the Dale Valley Neighbors Club.
Leila is survived by her son, Joe and wife Carole Johnson of Broken Bow; two sisters, Marthena Lamoureaux of Valentine, and Betty Bennett of Martin, S.D., and several neices and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; three brothers, Melvin, Leon, and Carl Jr.; and two sisters, Margaret and Dorothy.
