Custer Economic Development Director
It has been an exciting year for Custer County already! From being named one of the best places to live in the US to the announcements of some fantastic community developments. I never stop being in awe of the way our residents as willing to continually invest in the future of our region. Making headlines across the state and beyond has been CobbleStone Hotel & Suites and the One Box Convention Center. What a tremendous addition to the region.
This development will open opportunities to continue to grow Custer County’s presence on state and national radar by pulling in tourists and travelers by virtue of size and quality of the facility, and also because it is being led by a local group of innovation investors.
The other large development announcement was for a residential subdivision to be constructed at Indian Hills in Broken Bow. A local investor again stepped up to help fill our critical need for housing. There will be lots for 12 new stick built homes.
These homes will be three bedrooms, two bathrooms, two car attached garage. Many will have basements. These homes will be listed in the $150,000-$170,000 range depending on basement and floor plan.
This project with homes in these price ranges is made possible by an incredible partnership of local investors, City of Broken Bow, community minded banks, and a developer who sub-contracts the construction work locally.
Interested buyers can “pre-purchase” the homes. To get on the list please bring a letter of loan pre-approval from the bank and fill out interest sheets from the CEDC office.
This allows homeowners to select their floor plan, lot, and limited options from a color board. Construction of the homes will begin in September as the investor is applying for and hoping to receive a grant from Nebraska Affordable Housing Trust Fund that would allow qualified buyers access to down payment assistance.
The end of this year will mark our one year anniversary of living back in Custer County. When people ask me how we like it, we tell them it was the best decision we have ever made as a family.
This region continues to prove its exceptional quality. In our people, our growth, and our quality of life. It’s hard to imagine we ever called anywhere else home.
