Marvin W. “Barney” Hickenbottom, 95, of Callaway, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Callaway Good Life Center.
He was born August 12, 1917, in Callaway, to Rolla Clifford and Frances Addie (Schreyer) Hickenbottom. He was a 1934 graduate of Gandy High School in Logan County. Following school Barney farmed and moved from Arnold back to Callaway in 1955.
He was married to LaVonne Whipple Oct. 7, 1956, in Callaway at the Methodist Parsonage. Two boys were born two this union: Duane and Allan.
Marvin spent the majority of his life farming which he loved. He also enjoyed horses, coyote hunting, playing cribbage and cards especially “knock, knock” at Jo’s Café.
He was a member of the Callaway United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, LaVonne Hickenbottom of Callaway; two sons, Duane (Karen) Hickenbottom of Lincoln, and Allan (Juli) Hickenbottom of Winfield, Kan.; two sisters, Pat (Joe) Boucher of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Mary (Lloyd) Eggen Cle of Elum, Wash.; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vernon “Bill”; sisters, Gertrude Linder, Margaret Leach, Florence Berg, Donna McDermott, Delores Hickenbottom, and two infant siblings, Edward and Pauline.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the Callaway United Methodist Church with Pastor Roger Gillming officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Callaway. Timm-Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Callaway was in charge of arrangements.
