Eva F Shively, 94, of Gothenburg, died Oct. 20, 2010, at the Golden LivingCenter in Cozad.
Eva Fern Brooks Shively, daughter of Frederick and Lila Fern (Chesley) Brooks, was born Jan. 28, 1916, at the family home near the Climax Community northeast of Arnold. Eva was the fifth child born to this union of five boys and seven girls. She departed her earthly life to be with her Savior Oct. 20, 2010, at the age of 94 years.
She attended the Climax School until her father died during the blizzard in March, 1931. She went to South Dakota, at the age of 15 to live with her teacher and with other families in Nebraska, working for her board and room.
Eva married Arthur Edmund Shively Oct. 24, 1936, in North Platte. Four girls, Lucille, Ardis, Carol and Donna were born to this union. They farmed near Callaway, until l955 when they purchased a farm near Stapleton. Art farmed for 4 more years before moving to North Platte, Brady and Gothenburg and then retiring from the Monroe Manufacturing Co. at Cozad after 29 years.
"Art" suffered a stroke April 22, 1992, and died July 28, 1994, at North Platte.
Eva was baptized and joined the American Lutheran Church, Gothenburg in April, 1964.
She cleaned offices and homes in Gothenburg. Follow-ing Art's death, Eva sold her home and lived with the girls for several years before having her own apartment in Sutherland and Gothenburg. She lived at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg and Golden LivingCenter at Cozad.
Eva was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers, Theodore, George, Lawrence, Gerald and Floyd; sisters, Lilly (Louise), Lula (Pearl), Ruby, Phoebe, Florence and Alice; son-in-law, Eugene Whipple, Jr.; and grandson, Robert Whipple.
She is survived by her four daughters and their families, Lucille (Bob) Whipple-Koenig and her daughter, Barbara (Jim) Hotz, Josee, Wyatt and Ty of Gothenburg; Ardis (Ernie) Lehmkuhler of North Platte, and their children Paul (Elaine) Lehmkuhler, Jennifer of Dodge City, Kan., Ryan of Lincoln; Lauretta (Lloyd II) Vian, Heather (Steven) Maly, Michael and Samuel Clark of Lincoln; Carol (Bill) Trobee of Eaton, Colo. and their children Christine Trobee, Scott Bertea, Loveland, Colo., Amanda Bertea and Chelsey Brown, Ft.
Collins, Colo., Tracy (Kevin) Greenwood, Mariah, Jessie and Sarah, Bellevue, Colo.; Donna (Jim) Goddard, Omaha, and their children Casey (Nick) Pelletiere, and Lena of San Diego, Calif., and Travis (Becky) Goddard, of Omaha; four step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild, William Vian; sister-in-law, Mabel Brooks of North Platte; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Cremation was chosen. Register Book Signing will be is today, Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, with the family present from 2-4p.m.
Memorial services will be Oct. 29, 2010, at 10:30 am at the American Lutheran Church, in Gothenburg, with Pastor Matthew Groenke officiating.
Inurnment will be Oct. 29, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. in the Rosehill Cemetery at Callaway.
