BROKEN BOW -- The Broken Bow Indians were eliminated from the 2010 Class C1 playoffs last night with a 21-9 loss to Boone Central. The Indians allowed Boone Central 21 first half points and were unable to overcome the deficit in the second half.
Boone Central took advantage of a dejected Indian team that had a play negated because of an inadvertent whistle by the officials. The Indians turned the ball over to the Boone Central offense who drove down the field for their first score. The Cardinal offense found early success throwing the ball against the Indian defense which led to two more touchdowns in the first half.
In the second half, Broken Bow held the Cardinals on three downs forcing them to punt. The Indians then moved the ball inside the Cardinal 10-yard line. The Indians made two mistakes in the red zone, the first was being penalized for holding but the second hurt the most, an interception off a tipped ball at the goal line turning the ball over to the Cardinals at the 2-yard line. On the next play, Broken Bow pushed their way through the blockers forcing the Cardinal quarterback to throw the ball into the ground. The play resulted in and intentional grounding penalty by Boone Central and since it happened in the end zone the Indians were rewarded with a 2-pt. safety.
The Indians received the free kick and drove the ball 72 yards before being held on fourth and goal at the 3-yard line. Boone Central kept changed their game plan to strictly running the ball. The Indians forced the Cardinals to punt giving them possession in Cardinal territory. The Indians went for the end zone on the very next play with a pass that fell into the hands of a Cardinal receiver at the 2-yard line.
Late in the game, The Indians finally crossed the goal line when Adam Pracht scored on a 17-yard blast up the middle. Time ran out on the Indians and their season.
