Margaret M.Casteel, age 91, of Halsey, died Nov. 8, 2010, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Herb Gerhard.
Margaret Casteel was born to Milton and Catherine (Bleacher) Graybill in Lancaster, Pa., June 17, 1919. Margaret worked for a U. S. military gas mask factory in Lancaster during the 40s and she was later a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary for many years after she moved to Nebraska. Margaret met Merle Casteel while he was on leave during WWII. They were married Feb. 26, 1946, after Merle's discharge. To this union were born three children, two daughters and one son.
She and her husband moved to a farm in Sherman County, and later to Halsey, where she lived for many years.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Herb) Gerhard of Halsey; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and three sisters all of Lancaster, Pa.; an identical twin sister of California; a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Don Spitler; infant son, Larry Dean; and husband, Merle.
Margaret's entire life was devoted to her family.
Graveside funeral services will be today, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery at Loup City, with the Rev. Jeannie Rosenberger officiating. Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, is in charge of arrangements.
