Alice McMurtrey, 61

Alice Elizabeth McMurtrey was born in Omaho, to Dr. George McMurtrey and Margaret Alice (Owen) McMurtrey March 1, 1953. She departed this life April 5 , 2014, at the age of 61 years, 1 month and 4 days, with interment at Kilgore Cemetery in Kilgore. As a youngster, Alice loved to visit her grandparents, "Hub" ond "G. G." at the McMurtrey ranchand spent quality time there, where she was known to be an "adventurous little imp," earning this reputation by, at the age of 3 or 4, walking behind the weaned colts that were tied up inthe barn, and even climbing up the 75-ft wind charger, much to the chagrin of her father and grandmother. Alice loved to sing and was blessed with the voice of on angel. Her beautiful voice could be heard in church and school choirs. She enjoyed koraoke and often sang along with the radio. Traveling was also a passion of Alice's. She took many vacations, including trips to Alasko with Aunt Mary Alice; Florido with Katt; a fishing trip to Texas with Gary: ond many trips to Texas to visit Deb, Cindy and Ron. And who could forget numerous trips to Valentine to get picklesfrom Aunt Ruth McMurtrey and cinnamon rolls from Cheri Woodson. Alice's big heart was also open to many beloved pets. Among the most memorable was "Huckleberry", a blue and gold macaw; and of course, the love of her life: "Gizmo", her tea-cuppoodle. Alice attended school in Omaho until her sophomore year. She then moved to Brownsville, Texas where she groduated high school in 1971. She was very proud to have obtained her license in vocational nursing from Texas Southmost College in Brownsville, Texas in 1975. Her wit and quirky sense of humor is also one of her gifls that will be remembered by those who knew her. She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Erbo "Hub" and Muriel McMurtrey; maternal grandparents, John and Florella Owen: her mother, Margaret Alice (Owen)(McMurtrey); her sister, Mary Margaret (McMurt-rey) Ward; and her nephew, John Erba Hallman. Survivors include her father, Dr. George and Debra McMurtrey; sisters, Rella and Jerry Hallman; Amanda McMurtrey and friend Iris; Samantha ond Dr. Justin Olswaner; brother, George Gavin McMurtrey; her Aunt, Mary Alice Williams; nieces and nephews: Deanna and GaryPeterson, Justin Hallman ond Tracey Konefal; James ond Susan Ward; Thomas Ward: Andrew Ward and a host of family ond friends.
