Daniel Tinkham, 63

Daniel Leroy Tinkham was born Nov. 6, 1947, to Donald and Evelyn Woods Tinkham in Loup City. Surrounded by his family, Dan went to be with his Lord and Savior in his heavenly home Aug. 13, 2011, while at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell. Memorial services were Wednesday, Aug. 17, at the United Methodist Church in Sargent with the Rev. Cliff Reynolds officiating. Rhoad Funeral Home of Sargent assisted the family. Dan spent his childhood living on the family farm northeast of Sargent. He began his schooling in a one-room schoolhouse near his home until the school was consolidated into Sargent Public Schools. After graduating from high school in 1966, Dan went on to attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln at which time he met Edie Kottwitz. They married March 26, 1967, and lived in Lincoln. Their first child, Melissa Sue, was born Sept. 10, 1968. The family was joined by their son, Michael Allen, Aug. 10, 1970. In the fall of 1972, shortly after the birth of their son Mark Donald, who was born May 10, 1972, the family moved back to the Tinkham family farm. There Dan worked with his father, until he took over management of the farm in 1988. They continued farming and ranching until the fall of 2000, at which time Dan’s failing health caused them to move into Sargent. Dan’s hobbies included hunting and fishing as well as amateur radio. His interest in guns led him to become a licensed gunsmith. In January 2002, Dan and Edie traveled across the United States, spending many hours sightseeing and visiting many historical sites as well as attending the wedding of their son Michael to his wife, Brenda. Dan is survived by his wife of 44 years, Edie; three children, Melissa and family of Omaha, Michael and Brenda and sons Thomas and Christopher of Sargent, and Mark of Denver, Colo.; his parents, Donald and Evelyn Tinkham of Loup City; and sisters, Marilyn Jakob and family of Rockville, and Marlene Frescoln and family of St. Anne, Mo.Published in Custer County Chief, Aug. 18, 2011
