Destani Wilder, 11

Destani SummerRose Wilder, 11, of Sargent, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, in an automobile accident near Miller. Destani was born to Amanda Ogden July 23, 2001, in Broken Bow. Three years later, Richard Wilder came into her life and, on Dec. 12, 2005, Richard adopted her and her younger sister, Montannah. Destani loved her family, and whenever the opportunity arose, she would visit her Wilder grandparents and all her cousins. Destani took great delight in helping fix meals for Grampa Wilder during the time she and her sisters lived with their grandparents. She was always first in the kitchen to peel potatoes and really enjoyed getting her hands into meatloaf, cookie dough, or bread dough whenever she had the opportunity. She was thrilled to be allowed to make her first cake at Grandma’s house. Destani could find something good in almost everyone and, having a great gift of gab, would often strike up a conversation with anyone within talking distance. She looked forward to attending church with Grampa and Grandma Wilder and was often found reading her Bible, which she took with her almost everywhere. Reading “chapter books” and watching Ghost Whisperer while sitting on Grandma Wilder’s lap after school were among her favorite pastimes. Destani loved her family and especially enjoyed having the chance to go camping in the Black Hills and at Lake McConaughey with a large part of the Wilder family. She enjoyed anything she could do with her dad and especially liked it when she lived with him in Wisner and was able to attend a company party with him and danced with all his co-workers. She also had a best friend named Destiny at the Wisner school. Destani, whose beautiful young life was cut short much too soon, is best remembered for her infectious giggle and the simple fact that she never met a stranger. Survivors include her father and stepmother, Richard and Sarah Wilder; sisters, Montannah and Shalee, and stepbrother, Gus, all of Wisner; mother, Amanda Wilder of Sargent; grandparents, Ed and Etta Wilder, and Richard and Kathy Ogden, all of Broken Bow; great-grandparents, Evelyn Wilder of Gordon and Larry and Jeanette Powers of Columbus; and a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, scattered from border to border. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Brandon, and an uncle, Eric Gallett. Memorials may be made to the Wilder fund at any Great Western Bank.Published in Custer County Chief, Sept. 13, 2012
