Lady Warriors sent home after first round loss

The Ansley Lady Warriors met their match in the first round of the Girls State Basketball Tournament. From the tip-off the Wynot Lady Blue Devils dominated the Lady Warriors on both ends of the court. All season long the Lady Warriors were the team that created the pace of the game. Against Wynot, the Lady Warriors were over-matched by a faster and more physical team. Wynot put the pressure on the Lady Warriors early and never let up until the final buzzer. With tenacious full court pressure, Wynot scored quick and often while defensively they hustled for more rebounds and forced Ansley into numerous turnovers. Wynot ourtscored the Lady Warriors 17-6 in the opening quarter then padded their lead with six more points in the second quarter to lead 31-14 at halftime. The Lady Warriors came out in the third quarter and showed why they were deserving to be in the tournament. They found success with their full-court press were able to force Wynot into turnovers and missed shots. Offensively though, the Lady Warriors still struggled to fit the ball through the rim. At the end of the third quarter, Ansley was unable to narrow the lead and trailed 38-19. Wynot put the game away in the fourth quarter making 9 of 11 from the charity stripe and held the Lady Warriors to nine total points in the final period making the final score 51-28 in favor of Wynot. Taylor Rohde and Katie Drake led the Lady Warriors with 6 points each followed by Tazalea Scott with 4, Kate Watts 4, Chelsea Entz 4, Courtney Marsh 2 and Jordan Marsh 2. Wynot held Ansley's leading scorer, Seira Rhode, scoreless.Leading the way for Wynot were Kelsie Higgins with 16 points, Bailey Kuchta 12 and Maggie Schulte with 11.Ansley's season ends with 23 wins and only 3 losses.
