Louie Ropers, 78

Louie John Ropers, age 78, of Sargent, passed away June 22, 2013, at Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow. Louie was born July 7, 1934, to John and Elsie (Schwarz) Ropers in Hamil, S.D. His family moved to the Oconto area when he was nine. Louie went to Country School in Oconto and graduated from Lexington High School in 1952. He married Delores Hinrichsen Sept. 22, 1957 in Lexington, and they started their lives together in Broken Bow. They moved toSargent in 1962, where he started his own business, Louie's Body Shop. He was a member of the Nebraska Army National Guard in Broken Bow for 10 years, member and elder of Peace Lutheran Church in Sargent, Sargent School Board member, Keyvilla Board member, Boy Scout Leader, and a Chamber of Commerce business owner for 37 years. He retired and turned the body shop over to his oldest son, Louie Jr, in 1999, where he continued to work until his second retirement in 2002. Louie loved watching his children and grandchildren in their many activities as well as spending many hours in his flower and vegetable garden. He enjoyed square dancing with Delores and other dance couples. Louie cherished the morning and afternoon coffee shop breaks allowing time to play cards, roll dice and talk politics. Louie is survived by his wife, Delores, of 55 years; daughters, Jill (Tim) Trusler of Omaha, and Judy Newhouse of Hong Kong; sons, Louie Jr. (Jackie) Ropers of Sargent, Kent (Dori) Ropers of Axtell, and Gary (Angie) Ropers of Omaha; grandchildren, Kyle (Amie) Ropers, Tabbi (Ty) Seevers, Patrick Ropers, A.J. (Abby) Ropers, Paige Ropers, Calie Trusler, Paula Newhouse, Katie Ropers, Justin Ropers, Madelynn Ropers, Michael Ropers, Macie Ropers, Malorie Ropers, MatthewRopers, and two great- grandsons, Tatum Seevers and Tilden Seevers. He is also survived by his sisters, Anna (Ed) Graczyk of Sumner, Helen Barta of Lexington, and brother Henry (Wanda) Ropers of Rockville. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Betty Barta and Minnnie Hanson. Memorials are suggested to Mount Hope Cemetery or family's choice. Services will be conducted Friday, June 28, 2013, at 10:30 am at Sargent School Auditorium with Pastor Mark Middendorf officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, June 27, from 5-7 pm at Rhoad Funeral Home. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Sargent, with Rhoad Funeral Home of Sargent in charge of arrangements.Published in Custer County Chief, June 27, 2013
