Lucas J. Heusman, 30

Lucas John Heusman was born Nov. 29, 1982, in Lincoln to Timothy and Valarie Heusman. Lucas grew up in Broken Bow and graduated from Broken Bow High School with the class of 2001. Growing up in Custer County, Lucas participated in Cub Scouts and 4-H. While in high school, Lucas excelled in football, wrestling, and track, lettering multiple times throughout his high school career. April 13, 2004, Lucas was married to Melissa Walker. To this union two children were born: a daughter, Suzanna, and a son, Jacob. Lucas had a great passion for Husker football, and spending time outdoors. He loved to spend time with his children and his friends, hunting, fishing, mud dragging, and cruising on his black Harley Davidson motorcycle which he name “The Dark Horse”. Lucas collected many trophy bucks, and trucks for his mud drags. During his high school years, Lucas was employed at Berggren Home Builders. Following high school, he was employ-ed at Baldwin Filters in Kearney. In 2006, he began his career at Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a machine operator. Lucas is survived by his daughter, Suzanna, and son, Jacob Heusman of Callaway; parents, Valarie Oxford of Broken Bow, and Timothy Heusman of Eddyville; sisters, Heidi Heusman of Chicago, and Savannah and brother-in-law Brett Coleman, nieces Brenly and Greely Coleman of Lincoln; grandparents, Gene and LaVonne Oxford of Broken Bow, and Wesley and Mary Heusman of Callaway; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Lucas is preceded in death by his brother, Zachary Heusman; uncles Thomas Heusman and Richard Oxford; great-grandparents, Clarence and Katharine Oxford, Elijah and Zelda Eggleston, Landis and Lena Rulla, and Rudolph and Tressa Heusman. Lucas took his last ride on “The Dark Horse” May 13, 2013, near Broken Bow. He will rest next to his beloved brother, Zachary, at the Sumner Cemetery. Funeral services were Friday, May 17, 2013, in the Broken Bow Municipal Auditorium in Broken Bow with Pastor Ken Hutson officiating. Burial was in the Sumner Cemetery. Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow was in charge of the arrangements.Published in Custer County Chief, May 23, 2013
