Phone scam reported in area; do not give out personal info

Broken Bow Police Department

Several reports of a phone scam have been made to the Broken Bow Police Department, according to Police Chief Steve Scott.

"We have had reports of people receiving calls from 1-800-633-4227 claiming to be from Medicare and asking for personal information. This number is the Medicare number but it is not Medicare representatives calling," Scott said in a press release. "Our Officer spoke with Medicare and they will not ask for SSN, DOB or any other personal information when contacting members."

Chief Scott said this is a scam.

"Scammers are using an app or a computer program to make it appear that their call is legitimately coming from Medicare," he said. "As a reminder, you should never give out any personal information over the phone. If you are asked for it, hang up and call us or call a trusted relative or friend and ask their opinion."
