This week we throwback to the Jan. 12, 1977 edition of the Custer County Chief.

A freight train hit the S.E. Smith and Sons Lumber yard building about 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Burlington Northern Station manager here, John Sullivan, said that they believe ice, where the track crosses 9th Street, threw the train off the rails as it was going west on the mill track or freight siding beside the building.
Sullivan reported that no one was injured.
It was the second accident where a train hit a building from the mill track in recent weeks. Ken Kingston, owner, of Central Nebraska Warehouse, said Tuesday that a train had gone off the track December 27 and hit his docks.
